Mobitel 4G Broadband now live!
Mobitel, a unit of Sri Lanka Telecom, said mobile fourth generation (4G) broadband services had gone live in Colombo, Galle, Hambantota, Jaffna, Kalutara, Kandy, and Matara.
The 4G-LTE (fourth generation – long term evolution) services had shown downlink speeds of 96 Megabits per second, which they said was the highest in South Asia.
“To enjoy 4G-LTE speeds, customers must use supporting mobile phones, dongles or routers,” Mobitel said in a statement.
“With these superior speeds customers can experience faster download speeds, smooth HD video streaming, superior online gaming and much more.”
Enterprises can benefit from the service as it is reliable and has higher average speeds of Mobitel’s mobile 4G-LTE service which is backed by the fibre optic network of its parent, the firm said.
The company’s website states that 1800 MHz Band 3 devices are supported, however at this stage it is unclear if this includes iOS and Android devices. Currently, competing firm Dialog Axiata offers 4G without iOS compatibility for consumers.
